The Central Library offered all university members the opportunity to try this useful tool out during November 2020. Based on very positive reactions, especially from academics and doctoral students who tested Writefull, the Central Library secured an annual license to use it.
Information about the tool from the AiP distributor:
Writefull not only suggests how to improve the text, but specifically shows how words and phrases are used, how often a word or a phrase occurs, and helps compare occurrence of words or find out which words or synonyms usually occur in a particular context.”. Writefull (writefullapp.com) is an application that uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) on large language databases to give people feedback on their writing. People can select a piece of text in any writing tool (Microsoft Word, Pages, Gmail, etc.) and a small popover will appear above the selected text. Writefull is an app as curious as it is helpful. It lets you know if your sentences are written well in a peculiar way: by telling you if there are identical search results on Google.
- Writefull is an app that provides feedback on your writing by checking your text against databases of correct language. You can activate Writefull in any tool (like Word, Outlook, TextEdit) by selecting a piece of text and hitting CTRL + Space.
- The new Writefull has been launched! This new version uses Deep Learning algorithms and massive language databases to give you feedback on your texts.

Writeful
“…It is a very useful tool, especially for academic writing. It is intended for all researchers and students who write and publish professional texts in English, even though they are not native speakers. Writefull uses artificial intelligence (AI), specifically Deep Learning algorithms and an extensive language database. It checks a text using language models based on millions of already published professional texts. Writefull not only suggests how to improve the text, but specifically shows how words and phrases are used, how often a word or a phrase occurs, and helps compare occurrence of words or find out which words or synonyms usually occur in a particular context.”
The institutional license for Writefull includes the following tools: Writefull for Word, Writefull Revise, and Writefull Cite.
In order to use it, you need to install the Writefull for Word add-in to MS Word. You will find installation and user guides below. You can download the add-in on this page, or get it directly through Word by selecting the Insert tab » Get Add-Ins » Store.
